Gel polish can give you stunning, long-lasting nails – But it’s essential to apply it correctly to keep your nails healthy and avoid potential irritation or allergic reactions. Here’s some very important things you need to know before getting started:

1. Educate Yourself First

Before diving into gel polish application, take the time to learn about safe usage. Improper application or curing can lead to issues like skin sensitivities or even long-term contact allergies. Gel products are made from chemical ingredients and require care, precision, and the right tools—so make sure you’re fully prepared before you begin. 

2. Keep It Off the Skin

One of the golden rules of gel polish application is this: do not let the product touch your skin. It should be applied only to the nail plate. Even a small amount of product on your skin can increase the risk of developing a reaction over time.

If you accidentally get product on your skin, wipe it off immediately using a cleanser- or remover-soaked pad. Never cure gel that’s sitting on the skin.

Additionally, you should not touch products with a built in sticky layer after it has fully cured. This includes base coat, builder gels and gel polishes. These products all have a sticky layer after curing that binds the products together. Only after applying and fully curing your topcoat, it is safe to touch your manicure. 

Keeping product off your skin in one of the best ways to protect yourself against contact allergy. But despite doing your best, there are never any guarantees against contact allergies. Some people are likely more prone to developing contact allergies than others and may experience an allergic reaction.

3. Use the Right Lamp

Not all nail lamps are created equal. To ensure your Gelpolish Factory products cure fully and safely, use a lamp with at least 48W power and a wavelength between 360–405nm. A weak lamp might not cure the gel completely, leaving parts of the product uncured and increasing the risk of irritation or allergic response.

4. Cure for the Full 120 Seconds

All Gelpolish Factory products should be cured for 120 seconds. It’s crucial to cure the product long enough to ensure the entire layer—top to bottom—is hardened properly. Skipping or shortening this step can compromise both safety and durability, as wet product is the leading cause of allergies.  

5. Listen to Your Nails and Skin

If you experience any itching, burning, or irritation, stop using the product immediately, remove it and consult a medical professional. Always listen to your body. 

6. Don’t Use Gel on Damaged Nails

Applying gel polish on nails that are damaged, peeling, or affected by nail conditions can worsen the issue. Give your nails time to recover, and consult a specialist if needed before continuing use.
